We are thrilled to be announced winners today of a National Trust Heritage Award for the Malachi Revival event we held at the Malachi Gilmore Hall in October 2018.
The National Trust Heritage Awards is the signature event of the annual Australian Heritage Festival, and 2019 is their 25th year recognising heritage projects.
The Malachi Revival received the award in the Heritage Events, Exhibitions & Tours category, and were joint winners with Customs House, Sydney, and chosen from an extraordinary shortlist of the major Sydney institutions and Councils.
When purchasing the Hall in October 2017, we knew we were taking on the guardianship of a beloved building and that this was the pivotal moment to reconnect the Oberon community to its past cultural heritage. We were grateful to receive generous funding through a Community Heritage Grant from the NSW Government, enabling us to create the weekend of events, which was designed to be a bridge from the Hall’s past to its future, and aimed to stimulate understanding of its high social significance.
We are so encouraged and thrilled to receive this award – thank you National Trust! Heartfelt thanks to the Heritage Grants team at NSW Office of Environment and Heritage, to our family and to our friends, to the team of talented people who contributed to the event, to Andrew Conacher and Fiona Reynolds and the community of Oberon and beyond. And we would like to dedicate this award to the makers of the Malachi Gilmore Hall – may your vision for a place for the community to enjoy live on.
