O’Connell duo Kris Schubert (piano) and Lian Wong (bass) bring their full band (including horn section) up the hill to the Malachi.

From their Boatshed studio, the Safety of Life at Sea make music that blends blues, folk and soul. While the character and stories in the songs are all local, the rhythm section takes a leaf out of the books of Stax (Memphis) and Motown (Detroit), and the piano went for a weekend in New Orleans and never really came back.

The Safety of Life at Sea have released three albums, and their new song ‘Mama Let Me Go’ was released in August 2024. Kris and Lian will be joined by Stephen Helman (guitar), Tony Bibby (drums), Glen Wholohan (tenor sax/clarinet) and Chris Dove (trumpet/trombone).

6pm – 6.45pm Dinner at the Malachi – bring along your dinner and buy a drink from the Magna Bar. No BYO drinks (soft or alcoholic).
