SUMMARY:Café Latte Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:The Café Latte Orchestra was established in 2005 by Mark Walton\, a highly respected clarinet and saxophone performer\, teacher and music advocate. Mark invited his amateur woodwind friends to join and arranged wonderful music for them to play with parts that were a perfect match for their playing level. \nNow\, nearly twenty years later the Café Latte Orchestra (‘the happiest orchestra in the world’) gathers two to three times a year in different locations around Australia and New Zealand to explore new repertoire and renew old friendships. There are well over 100 orchestra members\, and they choose which workshops they would like to attend. \nThis time they are gathering in Oberon at the Malachi and are putting on a special concert on Tuesday morning\, October 1st.  They will play an enchanting selection of classics including music by Mozart and Beethoven\, as well as toe tapping jazzy numbers. The concert program will include some of the Mozart Piano Concerto No.17 featuring pianist Sumiko Yamamura.​ \nThe concert will run for 45 minutes and will be followed by light refreshments. \nTickets $15 available at the door. All proceeds will contribute to the Malachi’s exterior restoration project. \n

Later\, she worked in Europe with French street theatre/puppetry company PLASTICIENS VOLANTS. In 2017\, Jude joined MIDNIGHT FEAST THEATRE (NIDA’s first resident company for artists with disabilities) as a featured artist/facilitator and she continues there.  Jude also works regularly with CirqueM in Central West NSW\, where she’s based. \nThis is a 16+ event (Under 18’s to be accompanied by an adult).\nFully accessible venue.

DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the centenary of George Gershwin’s tuneful hit\, Rhapsody In Blue\, and fasten your seatbelts for a fun ride! \nComposed in 1924 and controversial from the first\, Rhapsody In Blue challenged notions regarding the divide between classical and popular music.  Its relatively free form flew in the face of symphonic structure; and it combined freshness and originality with an irresistible accessibility. First performed on 12 February 1924\, our concert is (almost) to the day a century on! \nWell-known Canberra identity Carl Rafferty (piano) is joined by his virtuosic and rambunctious friends on saxophone\, clarinet\, trumpet\, flute\, and percussion\, to play jazz infused renditions of music by Gershwin\, Ravel\, Bernstein\, Shostakovich\, and others. \nThe programme will include Debussy’s Clair de Lune\, Bernstein’s overture to Candide\, Copeland’s El Salon Mexico\, Ravel’s Pavane… and\, of course\, Gershwin’s Rhapsody In Blue!

This is our retelling of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream\, the play from where our town gets its name. \nThis locally written version sets the characters of Oberon and Titania as two teenagers Ron and Tania who are playing a computer game called A Midsummer Night’s Digital Dream. \nInvolving local primary and high school students\, plus there are roles for adults who are interested in a fun day of reading\, rehearsing and recording. \nOur past plays can be heard here on the Malachi’s YouTube channel. \nThe day is free to attend – supported by Oberon Council. DESCRIPTION:This exhibition celebrates the Centenary of the Tarana Oberon Branch Line\, which is some 24 kms long and was originally built between 1921-23. \nServices on the line were suspended in 1979 but the Oberon & Tarana Heritage Railway (OTHR) association\, a volunteer group which has been busy restoring the line\, is very close to reopening it to operate 73 Class Diesel Locomotives hauling 1890’s End Platform Cars as tourist trains between Oberon Station and Hazelgrove\, as a vibrant Heritage Railway. \nThis model railway exhibition will feature an N Scale reproduction of the Tarana Oberon Branch Line\, as well as other Australian Branch Line models. \nExhibition Opening Times: \n\nSaturday 30 September – 9 AM to 5 PM\nSunday 1 October – 10 AM to 4 PM\nMonday 2 October – 9 AM to 5 PM\nTuesday 3 October – 9 AM to 4 PM\n\nEntry on the door: $10 per person or $20 for families.

Dohnányi\nSerenade in C major\, Op.10 (Romance) \n\n5.45pm ~ Meet the musicians:\nMeet members of the Streeton Trio\, violinist Emma Jardine and cellist Rachel Siu\, who are joined by Sydney Symphony Orchestra principal violist Tobias Breider \nThis free public concert and also the free public performances on Friday 24 November 2023 are made possible through the support of the NSW Government through the Reconnecting Regional Communities grant funding. The Oberon Chamber Music Festival is a ticketed program held on Saturday 25 November and Sunday 26 November. DESCRIPTION:Announcing a fun community activity for both experienced and non-experienced ACTORS.  Gather your creative friends and join in the fun: we are calling for 15 voice acting roles and two sound effects makers to\, in one day\, read\, rehearse\, perform (using the script)\, and record a classic play from the Golden Age of Radio! \nThis event is FREE for all participants and audience – the recorded performance will commence at 3 PM – all are welcome.  To join the cast\, sign up with Wayne Barker at Barker’s Butchery or call Lucy East 0401 262 260. \nA recorded copy of the performance will be available online at the end of the day.

SUMMARY:FILM SCREENING: Pinchgut Opera's The Loves of Apollo & Dafne (Australian Theatre Live)
DESCRIPTION:The Malachi is bringing the best of Australian theatre to our brand-new big-screen\, with film screenings from recent live theatre shows. \nOn this occasion we will also be treated to a live performance of four arias by local singer Domino Houlbrook-Cove before the screening commences. \nCelebrating twenty years of performances\, Pinchgut Opera brings us a superb production directed by Mitchell Butel\, gloriously sung and with a lush\, exquisite performance by the Orchestra of the Antipodes led by Erin Helyard on chamber organ and harpsichord. The Orchestra was streamlined with Baroque harp intrepidly performed by Hannah Lane\, Laura Vaughan on viola da gamba and lirone\, and Simon Martyn-Ellis on theorbo. \nThis production was filmed at the City Recital Hall in May 2021. \nTHE LOVES OF APOLLO AND DAFNE was written in 1640 by Francesco Cavalli with lyrics by Giovanni Francesco Busenello. Cavalli moved to Venice when a schoolboy and was a pupil of Monteverdi. During the 17th century Cavalli was regarded as a major opera composer who wrote over 30 works\, but his music fell into obscurity in the 18th and 19th centuries until roughly the 1950’s. \nWithout Butel’s adorably eccentric vision\, however\, its theatrical potential may never have been known. It is as if Butel has turned Cavalli’s opera upside down and blown it to pieces\, giving it imaginative new life and something to say almost 400 years later. \nThe colours are electric and so are the voices in Butel’s riotous and witty romp in the park which highlights and toys with Busenello’s libretto. With over 20 roles cast for 6 principal singers in multiple guises and a chorus of four\, an ancient Greek myth is revitalised and resonates splendidly.
