SUMMARY:THE GIANTS - Field To Forest Movie Event
DESCRIPTION:A new cinema event is planned for this year’s Oberon Field to Forest Festival – two very special screenings of THE GIANTS held at the iconic Malachi Gilmore Hall over the last weekend of March. \nFrom the makers of FREEMAN (ABC\, 2020)\, THE GIANTS explores the intertwined fates of trees and humans in this cinematic portrait of environmental folk hero and gay icon Bob Brown who took green politics to the centre of power. From a seedling to forest elder: the film is a masterclass that draws on Bob’s 50 years of inspiring activism\, from the Franklin campaign for Tasmania’s last wild river\, to today’s battle for the Tarkine rainforest. \nThe extraordinary life of Bob Brown began in Oberon. His father was an Oberon policeman and Bob cherishes the his roots in Central West NSW. Told in Bob’s own words\, his story is interwoven with the extraordinary life cycle of Australia’s giant trees\, brought to the screen with stunning cinematography and breathtaking forest animations. \nThere will be two screenings of the film – Saturday 28 March\, 7PM and Sunday 29 March\, 2PM. \nGet Tickets

SUMMARY:Echoes of the Picture Palace
DESCRIPTION:Get Tickets\nSilent cinema brought to life with live music… \nIn a throwback to the days of vaudeville and the picture palace\, Nick Russoniello and the Golden Age Quartet reawaken the Malachi’s past and celebrate the great Charlie Chaplin in a concert that combines classic film and live music. Including pieces from Golden Age greats and new compositions\, the afternoon will be part history lesson and all entertainment. \nIn this cine-concert experience\, the Golden Age Project re-create the traditions of the silent film era. Although silent in name\, the films of the 1920s were shown in bustling picture palaces complete with live musical accompaniment. Echoes of The Picture Palace pays tribute to this lost tradition. \nThis programme features a screening of Charlie Chaplin’s The Immigrant\, a 1917 silent film regarded as one of the best in its genre. Chaplin’s bar fights\, seasickness\, a heated card game and budding romance are animated by original music composed by Nick Russoniello. Also screening is Australia’s earliest film Patineur Grotesque (1896) accompanied by a freshly improvised piano solo. \n \n  \nThis concert is supported by Live Muic Australia.
